12 Must-Try Memorial Day Menu Ideas for the Ultimate Cookout

Memorial Day is around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you’re already planning the menu.

Sure, burgers and hot dogs are classics, but why not switch things up a bit this year?

I’ve gathered some of my favorite tried-and-true dishes, plus a few new ideas I’m excited to test out.

Whether you’re hosting a big backyard barbecue or keeping it low-key with a few close friends, these dishes will make your Memorial Day spread unforgettable.

1. Smoked Chicken Salad on Croissants

Let’s start with something light yet packed with flavor.

I love making a smoked chicken salad with a mix of shredded smoked chicken, mayo, a little Dijon mustard, celery, and red grapes for a hint of sweetness.

Serve it on buttery croissants for the perfect handheld bite.

2. Smoked Buffalo Chicken Dip

Buffalo chicken dip is a staple, but have you ever smoked the chicken before mixing it in?

It takes the flavor up a notch. Cream cheese, ranch, shredded cheese, and a good hit of buffalo sauce make this dip irresistible.

Serve it with tortilla chips or celery sticks.

3. Bacon Burgers with Grilled Veggies

A good burger is essential, but I like to take mine up a level by mixing crispy bacon into the patty itself.

Throw some corn on the cob, asparagus, and bell peppers on the grill as well—grilled veggies are always a hit.

4. Ribs & Ribeye Combo

If there’s one thing that screams Memorial Day, it’s ribs.

I love smoking a rack of baby back ribs low and slow, slathering them in barbecue sauce.

For the steak lovers, a juicy ribeye is also on the menu. Can’t decide? Have both!

5. Macaroni Salad

Sometimes, simple is best.

A good old-fashioned macaroni salad made with elbow pasta, mayo, mustard, diced pickles, and a little paprika never disappoints.

It’s the perfect side dish that pairs with just about everything.

6. Cedar Plank Salmon

For those who prefer seafood, cedar plank salmon on the grill is a game changer.

The cedar imparts a smoky, woodsy flavor to the fish while keeping it incredibly moist.

Serve with a fresh lemon wedge and a side of grilled zucchini.

7. Smoked Pulled Pork

If you’ve got the time, smoked pulled pork is always worth it.

I like to make mine ahead of time and reheat it gently in a sous vide to keep it tender and juicy.

Serve with homemade coleslaw and Hawaiian rolls for easy pulled pork sliders.

8. Seven-Layer Bean Dip

A great appetizer that’s always a crowd favorite.

Layers of refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, shredded cheese, tomatoes, olives, and green onions make this dip colorful and delicious.

Serve with tortilla chips.

9. ‘Man Burgers’ with Street Corn

One of my friends introduced me to what he calls ‘Man Burgers’—ground beef mixed with thick-cut bacon, brisket seasoning, and grilled to perfection.

Topped with crispy onions and pickled jalapeños, these burgers mean business.

Serve with Mexican street corn for a killer combo.

10. Grilled Brats & Sausages

Bratwurst, andouille, and chicken sausages are always a win.

I like to grill them first, then let them soak in a slow cooker with beer, onions, and sauerkraut for an extra punch of flavor.

11. Homemade Cornbread & Key Lime Pie

Every good cookout needs a little sweetness.

A warm slice of homemade cornbread with honey butter is an easy side that pairs with BBQ.

And for dessert, a tart and creamy key lime pie is the perfect way to cool down on a hot day.

12. Watermelon & Charcuterie Board

For a refreshing and easy snack, a big bowl of chilled watermelon is a must.

If you want to get fancy, set up a charcuterie board with crackers, cheeses, meats, and some tzatziki for dipping.

Memorial Day is about honoring those who have served while spending time with family, friends, and good food. Whether you go all out with smoked meats and homemade sides or keep it simple with burgers and brats, the most important thing is enjoying the moment. What’s on your Memorial Day menu this year?
